many people simply regard pride and prejudice as a love story, but in myopinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time. she perfectlyreflected the relation between money and marriage at her time and gave thepeople in her works vivid characters.

the characters have their own personalities. mrs. bennet is a woman whomakes great efforts to marry off her daughters. mr. bingley is a friendly youngman, but his friend, mr. darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feelsuperior. even the five daughters in bennet family are very different. jane issimple, innocent and never speaks evil of others. elizabeth is a clever girl whoalways has her own opinion. mary likes reading classic books. (actually she is apedant.) kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, lydia. lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow alittle profligate. when i read the book, i can always find the samepersonalities in the society now. that is why i think this book is indeed therepresentative of the society in britain in the 18th century.

the family of gentleman in the countryside is jane austen’s favouritetopic. but this little topic can reflect big problems. it concludes the stratumsituation and economic relationships in britain in her century. you can findthese from the very beginning of this book.

the first sentence in this book is impressive. it reads: “it is a truthwell known to all the world that an unmarried man in possession of a largefortune must be in need of a wife”. the undertone is very clear: the foundationof the marriage at that time is not emotion but possession.

people always think that austen was an expert at telling love stories. infact, the marriage in her book is not the result of love, but the result ofeconomic needs. after reading this book, i know the truth is that a poor womanmust be in need of a husband, a wealthy man.

i couldn’t forget how eager mrs. bennet wants to marry off her daughters.if you want to know why she is so crazy about these things, i must mention thesituation in britain at that time. only the eldest son had the privilege ofinheriting his father’s possessions. younger sons and daughters who are used toluxurious lives have no choice but marry a man or woman in possession of a largefortune to continue their comfortable lives. thus, we can see that gettingmarried is a way to become wealthier, particularly for women without manypossessions. jane austen told us that money and possession determinedeverything, including marriage and love in her century.

this term i read a novel called pride and prejudice which is famous allover the world for many years. this type of novels not only at that timeattracted broad readers, today, it still gives the readers unique artenjoyment.

the author, jane austen, was a british novelist who was born in a smallcountry town. her father was a local vicar. austin didn't go to regular schools, but she read many literary works at her parents' guidance. she started writingabout the age of 20, and published six novels. jane was unmarried all her life.for living in a small country town, contacting the medium and small landlords, pastor as well as their quiet and comfortable living environment, there were nosignificant social contradictions in her works. she described a truthful pictureof her world, especially the marriage and love between gentleman and ladies byher meticulous feminine observation. the style of her works is humorous and richin comic conflicts, so many readers love them. from the late eighteenth to thenineteenth century, vulgar and boring sentimental novels and gothic novels werefull in british literary. but jane’s novel iconoclastic showed mid-class ofdaily life and pastoral scenery in british countryside at that time which hadnot been capitalist industrial revolution impacted,. although the breadth anddepth of the reflection was limited, it played good effect to change the vulgaratmosphere in novels.

why is it called pride and prejudice? elizabeth and darcy’s story canexplain. darcy loved elizabeth at first sight at the ball. but the arrogantcharacter caused by the growing environment stopped his initiatively close toelizabeth. elizabeth as anyone else believed he is haughty and stubborn. themore darcy loved elizabeth, the more he would not shown on the surfaceinsteading of making apathy. he thought if elizabeth would be proud afterknowing he loved her, so his character of pride stopped this happening.elizabeth prejudiced against darcy deeper and deeper. in her eyes, he evenbecame a sinister, hypocritical people. as darcy more loved elizabeth, hefinally was unable to restrain to show his love to elizabeth. he certainlythought elizabeth would accept, but he didn't know how about his image inelizabeth’s eyes. so he was surprised when elizabeth refused him. his arrogancehad suffered a blow. but from then on, they began to candid exchange, thenmisunderstandings gradually eliminated. later, inadvertently knowing that darcyproperly handled her sister lydia and wickham’s elopement, elizabeth’s attitudechanged. darcy was not arrogant as others thought. after elizabeth’s rejection,he began to reflect on the self-examination and treated people with morepopulist. finally, regardless of his aunt’s strong objection and concept offamily, darcy proposed to elizabeth again. elizabeth willingly consented. shebegan to appear her lively side to darcy.

the characters have their own personalities. mrs. bennet was a woman whowas eager to marry off her daughters. mr. bingley was a friendly young man, buthis friend, mr. darcy, was a very proud man who seemed to always feel superior.even the five daughters in bennet family were very different. jane was simple, innocent and never spoke evil of others. elizabeth was a clever girl who alwayshad her own opinion. mary liked reading classic books. actually she was apedant. kitty didn’t have her own opinion but liked to follow her sister,

lydia. lydia was a girl who followed exotic things, handsome man, and wassomehow a little profligate. i personally like elizabeth best, not only becauseshe was clever and beautiful, but she was a person who knew clearly of herthoughts. she was not afraid to express what she felt, and had no fear of beingembarrassed, for nothing honest should be shameful to her. be told at that time, this was very valuable for a lady from a large boudoir. just because of thisquality, she had her own mind in love, and she and darcy composed a wonderfulfamily after passed various troubles.

the first sentence in this book is impressive. it says: “it is a truthuniversally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune mustbe in want of a wife”. the undertone is very clear: the foundation of themarriage at that time is not emotion but possession.

as far as i considered, people can’t divide people by rich and poor.everyone is equal on every aspect such as character and knowledge. no one can bearrogant because of wealthiness or high status, and also can't be self-abasedwith economic poverty. this truth relating to our daily life is like that weshould not be proud or produce arrogance mood when we make a few achievements,.learning is endless. we should know that there must be many people clever thanourselves. we must think out a way to study better than others. the vanity iscaused by prejudice in the text. one cannot distinguish good and bad justbecause the beautiful and ugly appearance. elizabeth hated darcy because ofdarcy's arrogance generating by wealth and wacker's rumors. without completeunderstanding, she prejudice against him. as the saying goes, "men cannot bejudged by their looks." whether study, life or anything else, one cannot see itsessence only from the appearance. pride and prejudice are our common weaknessand shortcomings. every person actually is easy to be driven by his ownsubjective impression. so it can comment easily to other people underincorrectness, then it will cause misunderstandings between each other. aperson’s first impression can affect many things. not he must change, but youshould more deeply know about him, then you will have more objective opinion, just like the heroine's opinion of darcy in the novel changed because ofknowing. or if the people in the world no longer have pride and prejudice thesetwo bad behavior customs, this world will more harmonious and friendly.

in “pride and prejudice”, the sister of mr. bingley strongly opposed hisplan of marrying jane because the bennets don’t have many possessions and theirsocial positions are much lower than them. from this, we can see there are a lotof obstacles for a not very rich woman to marry a wealthy husband. the society, the relatives would not allow them to get married.

in modern society, although the marriages of economic needs have decreasedrapidly, the concept of “money determines everything” is still rooted in somepeople’s mind. a lot of parents try hard to interfere their children’smarriages. education background, possessions, jobs remains the main reason thatmay influence one’s marriage. marry for money is still a big problem in oursociety. we can’t help thinking: can money determine everything?

austen left this problem for us to think. the genius of jane austen lies inthis perfect simplicity, the simplicity that reflects big problems. althoughausten was only 21 when she wrote “pride and prejudice”, her sharp observationof social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively. theplots in her works are always very natural. the development of the plot is asinevitable as a problem in mathematics. i think the depth of pride and prejudiceis the reason that makes this book prominent and classic. today, her book stillcan be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at her time and inmodern time.

After a term’s reading, I finished ten more books, however, what impressedme most is Jane Austen and her two classical books.

In China maybe we all know LiQingzhao, a great female poet whose poetry arefull of the emotions from the bottom of her heart. However, in England thefigure maybe is my most admirable authoress Miss Austen who can never have toomany respects from the common people just like me. After read her twomasterpieces of books Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility, I feel soproud of being female to see a world-famous authoress using her independentthoughts, humor words to show us the relationship between the so-calledsuperiors and the lower-class.

At that time, neither in the east nor in the west, it is not so easy for awoman to become a great figure with literary reputation. In China Li made it,while in England Miss Austen with her unique characteristic also realized herdream after a long struggle with the temporal points. It seems that all inJane’s life, she made a decision between sense and sensibility; once there wasan old saying “Affection is desirable, money is absolutely indispensable.” Sheresolutely chose her true love but not a splendid life or a comfortable home, what a pity she can not marry the one she did not really love even a belovedone, in her short life, she finished six famous books with her heart and soulbut never married and stayed single for ever.

When reading Pride and Prejudice, I wondered why the oldest sister in theBennet family also was named Jane, is there any possibility Jane Bennet is thesoul of Miss Austen; and Miss Austen expected to realize all the pity which cannot come true in her real life, so Jane Bennet was pictured as prefect aspossible to be the best of the five sisters.

It’s a classical book with abundant description of everyone’s inner heart, especially the changes in their hearts. It can never deserve too many analysesfor it was so wonderfully worked. One can say anything but ordinary to show ourrespects and admiration.

The man said“I do not have that talent of conversing easily with people Ihave never met before.” The woman said“We all don’t know him.” The book is fullof the man’s pride and the woman’s prejudice in its lines and words.

From his pride we can see his confidence and persistence; whereas from hispride we can’t see his kindness and gentleness which he hid behind thesurface.

From her prejudice we can see her firmness and treason; whereas from herprejudice we can’t see her expectation and worries which she hid behind thesurface.

So it gave us a beginning of the story of pride and prejudice and led us toMiss Austen’s emotion world. So wonderful a book, so classical a story, soprefect a happy ending made it never a problem whether his pride or herprejudice counted, because of love, all can be neglected.

In the book once the proud Mr Dracy talked about the traits an accomplishedwoman must have, it needed a thorough knowledge of music, singing, dancing, drawing and modern languages, and besides this, a certain something in hermanner of walking, in her voice and her behaviour. What’s more, something moresolid, the improvement of her mind by wide reading. It could never be too strictfor a common woman to follow.

About the attitudes to the marriage, Charles Dickens in the Oliver Twistalso showed us the opinions of that day, he said if a man has ambitions to enterpolitics, then he marries a woman with a stain on her name, over though it’s nother fault, it might spoil his chances of success in his life. The society iscruel, people might use the knowledge of his wife’s doubtful birth against him,and against his children, too. And one day, he might begin to regret hismarriage.

But love is so great that nothing can conquer it, and in the Pride andPrejudice we see the type of classical love, if we say in the realization we areso sorry to see the over more interest lead us to forget what love is, what apity when love is not so pure as it should be, what a pity when love is used asa medium of exchange.

To my happiness the books inflected Miss Austen’s marriage view, it iswrong to get married for property, money and states. She objects to gettingmarried for money and regarding the marriage as a trifling matter. She alsopoints that the man and the woman’s emotion is the foundation of an idealmarriage.

After reading it, I feel that I just want to turn Elizabeth who is ordinarybut with special beauty, brave but with a little stubborn, though she is not aprefect woman our eyes, she does be a woman with prefect disadvantages. To thehero Mr Dracy, I feel that I just want to marry a gentleman like Mr Dracy whoalways puts his love deep in his heart, till the day he made sure that Elizabethwas the one he wanted to spend the rest time of the live. Under the handsome andgentle; proud and serious face, there was a kind heart full of love.

Pride is just like a piece of beautiful clothes which is luxurious anduntouchable. However, the expense of pride is loneliness. Prejudice is just likethe clouds floating in the sky with its freedom. However, the expense ofprejudice is lost.

What I learnt from the books and Jane Austen is deeply printed in my mindand I should never forget Elizabeth and Mr Dracy’s prefect love story, theyusefully influenced each other. His mind might have been softened and hismanners improved by her sociability, and she might have learnt from his greaterjudgment and knowledge of the world. Just like a fairy tale, the price andprincess have a happy live together, which I am looking forward.
